💭 Similar to the phrase “you always communicate, even if you say nothing” – you also always decide what to work on. Here’s my take on possible impact optimisation approaches. You can work for:

1. Organisations with “bad impact” (e.g. Coca-Cola) and donate nothing.
2. Organisations with “bad impact” and donate some spare money to any charity (e.g. World Food Programme) Have a meal
3. Organisations with “bad impact” and donate some spare money to the rationally most effective organisations (e.g. Against Malaria Foundation) Don’t be sick
4. Organisations with relatively neutral impact (e.g. working at the local water supply company)
5. Organisations having any good impact (e.g. ReCup that spreads reusable packaging). Search for them on specific impact job boards like goodgigs and see what you get.
6. Organisations which products and services you use yourself and which have some sort of good impact (e.g. Tomorrow Bank that I use which invests money in altruistic projects).
7. Organisations which products and services you (would) use yourself and which fulfils your core needs better Physical and psychological health
8. Organisations that are “rationally most impactful” Don’t die

I chewed on these different impact optimisation approaches in my mind for a while. More coming soon-ish.
